Citywide Graduation!

I am thrilled and proud to invite you and your school communities to our citywide graduation celebration next Tuesday, June 30, at 7pm. Please share this flyer as widely as you can with your students, families, and staff. Our seniors have worked so hard to get to this point, and through this exciting event we will rally around them—and show how much we support our graduates, who are heading into the world at this extraordinary time. All New Yorkers are invited to tune in on PIX11 or via social media, and to show support for our 2020 graduates!

Return to School 2020 Survey

Our students, staff, and families have done an incredible job with remote teaching and learning. We are working on plans for re-opening school buildings in the 2020-21 school year, and exploring various options based on available guidance from public health experts.

Since we cannot yet predict what September will look like, we need to be prepared for a range of possibilities. We know we can’t do this without your input! We’ve created a short, anonymous survey to help us understand what is most important to you for when we return to school in the fall.

Parents of P.S.121,

I hope you are doing well and are staying safe during this difficult time. We wanted to take a moment and introduce to you a service our school has partnered with, Practice Makes Perfect. This tutoring service would provide you and your child with the opportunity to directly connect with a trained tutor from Practice Makes Perfect who will assist your child with navigating classwork/homework for a 30 minute session. We understand that the transition to distance and online learning can be difficult, but we are here to help. If you are interested in having your child work one-on-one with a tutor and would like a tutor to reach out to your child please fill out the following form. A tutor will reach out to you between the hours of 9AM and 2PM, Monday through Thursday, to schedule an online tutoring session. Please feel free to include any specific questions you may have at this time on the form and we will try our best to assist you as soon as possible.

Dear Families,

 

            We would like to thank you for keeping your children on task during these unforeseen times. We appreciate you and all you are doing at home.

 

The week of April 13th to April 17th was slated for Spring Break. As you may have heard in the news, to support New York State’s efforts to keep everyone at home and social distancing, the Department of Education has required us to continue Remote Learning during that week.

 

Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th

 

These two days will be used as “make-up” days for any missing assignments. Please use the time to complete any work that your child may not have been able to complete on assignment dates. If your child has completed all of their work already, please use this time to engage them in independent reading on MYON or IXL for Math. There will be no live sessions during this time. If you have any questions, or need support, please email or send your child’s teacher a message on google classroom.

 

Monday, April 13th- Friday, April 17th

 

During this time, students will engage in daily activities through various themes.

 

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES (APRIL 9th - APRIL 17th)

 

If you are disconnecting for religious observance between April 9, 2020- April 17, 2020, please send a message to your child’s teacher so that your child’s attendance is taken accordingly and you do not get calls from our outreach team during that time. Please note that attendance will be marked as “absent” although these days are excused. Students will not be penalized for missing assignments.

 

If your child will be engaging in remote learning, please check the tasks and directions in google classroom, as assignments vary by grade.

Health & Wellness! Discover How You Can Be a Wellness Champion while staying indoors and practicing social distancing with Physical Education activities and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Education activities 

 

 The NYCDOE uses the Supportive Environment Framework to support the mental, physical and emotional wellness of each student and to ensure a safe, welcoming & affirming environment for all students, families and educators. During Wellness Wednesday, students and families will have a chance to learn about these domains of wellness through instructional enrichment and experiential activities.

This will include, but is not limited to:

·         Physical Education and Health Education extension activities

·         Physical activity & Healthy Habits (eat a healthy snack, do a 15-minute       mindfulness exercise)

·         Learning about and/or practicing a restorative circle as a family

·         Affirming and honoring one’s identity through CR-SE activities

World Languages! Over the course of World Languages Day, students and families will explore cultures and languages as assets in a global society. 

 

Students and families will  explore and make connections to the rich diversity of languages and cultures in New York City.  Students will build on the core concepts of World Language learning: communication, comparisons, connections, communities, cultures, as well as lifelong learning:

o   To understand how exploring and understanding the world around us makes us better global citizens

o   To develop an understanding of Spring celebrations around the world 

o   To explore the music and art of another culture

Arts!

Spring Break Family Fun with the Arts!

Over two days, students and families are invited to explore together active arts making adventures in Dance, Music, Theater, Visual Arts and the Moving Image. These activities will allow students and families to come together on projects across disciplines that will allow students to express themselves and share their talent with their school communities.

 

 

WHERE WILL MY CHILD FIND LESSONS AND INSTRUCTIONS?

 

Assignments will be posted under the “classwork” section of Google Classroom each day. Please check for feedback and check-in during “office hours” for additional support.

 

HOW DO I CONTACT MY CHILD’S TEACHER FOR SUPPORT?

 

Although there will be no live teaching during this time, teachers will be available for “office hours” via email at any point during the day (8:30 AM- 12:20 PM) and (2:00PM-2:50PM).

PARENTS - As promised, the following form can be utilized for parents to voice your opinions, concerns and questions to the staff at P.S. 121.  This form will remain available during Remote Learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 School Year.
